VITAMIN B11

What is vitamin B11?

Vitamin B11, also called folic acid, is necessary for the growth and normal functioning of the body and production and white and red blood cells. It's also extremely important for the development op unborn babies.

A shortage of this vitamin can cause anaemia and disorders of the gut. In an unborn child it creates a higher risk of an open back, harelip or a cleft palate. Woman who want to get pregnant or are in their first trimester are advised to take about 400 micrograms of folic acid to lower the chance of the before mentioned disorders in their baby.

The recommended amount of vitamin B11 is 300 micrograms per adult per day. There is also a maximum recommended amount, which is 1000 micrograms per adult per day.
